Presided over masterfully by MC John O'Brien, the Club was pleased to welcome the Hon Simon Crean to the May Luncheon. which featured a Latin American themed menu. A mixed head table saw Simon Crean seated with Greg Sword, Peter Nixon and John 'Jack' Elliott - pictures can be found in the gallery. Simons' oration covered a wide variety of topics and was followed by an insightful session of Q&A.
A distinguished Australian politician, having retired from Federal Parliament in September 2013 after a twenty-three year political career, Simon served as leader of the Australian Labor Party and Federal Leader of the Opposition, and held numerous cabinet portfolios in Australian Government. Prior to entering Parliament, Simon was active in a number of elected positions in the Trade Union movement including President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). In these roles he was also active in the development and implementation of the Accord. Simon is currently involved in a number of Universities, Boards and not for profits.
